11/15/12 EPA Secret Emails
Federal law requires executive branch personnel to use government email accounts to conduct official business.
And all accounts must be available to Freedom of Information Act [5 U.S.C. § 552] requests.
Apparently, several other senior EPA staff are doing likewise.
Jackson’s alias is the name “Richard Windsor.” Jackson allegedly uses this account to conduct EPA business she wants to shield from the public.
The EPA gladly*
responds to FOIA requests for email in Jackson’s name because the questionable activity takes place in the fake name account.
[*Correction: The EPA oftentimes responds to FOIA requests but, does not do so ‘gladly.’ Many times, the EPA refuses to comply with FOIA requests.]
This apparent violation of federal law was discovered by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington, DC think tank. CEI discovered Jackson is the second EPA head to use an email account in a fake name.
[The Competitive Enterprise Institute has filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency in order to disclose the secret ‘secondary’ email accounts that have been shielded from the public.]
