What’s ahead for Donald Trump in the next three months?

Here’s what’s happening behind the headlines.

It’s become a cliché that a new administration has 100 days to roll-out bold initiatives. This is the honeymoon period where critics and political opponents take a wait-and-see approach. There’s cautious optimism. Will the new president succeed?

There’s been no honeymoon for Trump. Much of the press has been in total meltdown mode. In contrast, Barack Obama had a honeymoon period [here, here, here, here] his entire presidency.

Trump should forge ahead. Repeal of Obamacare is already on the table. This should rejuvenate small businesses that have suffered under its crushing regulations. It’s also welcome relief to the millions of Americans who lost private coverage. Seven and a-half million were shuffled into Medicaid.

The administration should also move quickly in revamping several agencies. Start with the Justice Department. It abandoned its role as chief law enforcement agency and behaved like the Praetorian Guard. Here’s just one example. It secretly subpoenaed the phone records of more than 100 journalists. We fought a Cold War against nations that did that.

Other agencies in desperate need of housecleaning include the EPA, IRS and Energy.

It’s time to drain the swamp.
