10/10/17 – Shaking My Head

Here are five recent stories that have me shaking my head.

Here’s what’s happening behind the headlines.

Judge Richard Posner retired from the federal bench last month. The Ronald Reagan-appointee gave a very telling interview.  He said in the last 15 years or so he “[paid] very little attention to legal rules, statutes, [and] constitutional provisions.”  He’d also skirt Supreme Court precedent to find a “sensible resolution.”

The Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film complained that women are often portrayed as a wife or mother.  Maybe that’s because portraying them as a grandfather, brother or son might appear strange.

Actor Matt Damon is a big advocate of public schools. He’s promoting a documentary that’s critical of private schools. But that doesn’t stop Damon from sending his four children to private school.

The Dallas School District is considering renaming about two-dozen schools.  Among those that may have names removed are James Madison and Thomas Jefferson high schools and Benjamin Franklin Middle School.

Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid and now her book sales have fallen short of expectations. Walmart slashed the cover price by 40% before it was even released.   So, Amazon tried to stimulate sales by deleting hundreds of negative reviews.
